James A. Dudley journal, 1814.

Journal of Lieut. James A. Dudley kept on board the U.S.S. Superior, 1 May - 12 August 1814. Dudley describes his daily duties and activities on board the ship, which was stationed on Lake Ontario under the command of Commodore Isaac Chauncey. Most of the entries deal with preparing and outfitting the ship, procuring supplies, and news of the crew. Entries kept after the ship set sail on 3 August record weather and wind conditions, latitude and longitude coordinates, and the movement of British ships in the area.
